Padme Aqua Georgette Update

Here is another update on my progress for my Episode 3 Padme aqua georgette gown. My new goal for completion is March 21st, because I have an event that we are planning on "trooping". I already know the embroidery won't be 100% finished by then, but I want to have as much completed as possible. I've gotten to a suitable "stopping" point for now on the gown embroidery so I am focusing the remainder of my time between now and March 21st on the sleeve/gauntlet embroidery.

Here are some progress images:

*I still haven't washed and ironed the gown, so bear with me!

I have also made good progress on my headband. I have a friend who does resin molding and I asked him to make a mold and pour resin copies of the headband "jewelry" so that all my headband pieces would be uniform. I've recently spent my time cleaning the raw pulls and filling air holes. I have the pieces mounted on the headband form, ready for warm enough weather to spray paint everything.

Here is my original Sculpey mold (seen here with an image of the movie version).

Padme Aqua Georgette Update

After Halloween, I put my Padme aqua georgette gown aside for a while because I needed some time away from it. The beginning of the year, I decided to pick it back up again. Here are pictures of my progress so far:

Gown Front.

The bodice and gown are sewn together now and I am working on the embroidery down the front of the gown where the georgette parts to reveal the satin beneath it. It was necessary for me to sew the gown together before I could embroider it so I could try it on and hem it. It needed to be hemmed to know where to place the embroidery.

Gown Back.

It was necessary to add a bit of width to the bodice, which won't be seen that well once the drape is in place. I began this gown before I became pregnant, now that I am pregnant certain areas of me have become larger, so I needed to accomodate for that on the gown.

Gown Back with Drape (pinned in place).

The drape will also have a bit of embroidery added to it, though I'm leaving that as my very last step, because the gown could be worn without it...it's not a detail that is very easy to see in the movie.

Gown Side with Drape (pinned in place).

Beads and shells. Headband pieces.

A friend of mine cast a Sculpey master sculpt of mine in resin for me so that each piece of the headband jewelry would be identical. I still need to trim, fill, sand, and clean up the resin peices as well as paint them and add the rinestones.

The beads and shells will be used for the arm gauntlets/sleeves. The shells in the movie version of the costume have a "mother of pearl" sheen to them, so I purchased some acrylic pearlizing medium to paint a shimmer on my plain white shells.

*Note, my gown hasn't been ironed yet, it will look much better once I am finished with the embroidery and have had a chance to iron it.

Aqua Georgette Update

I wanted to wear my Padme aqua georgette gown under a tulle over dress to be a ghost for Halloween, but I spent so much time on my husband's costume (Ghostbuster) that I ran out of time for mine and was just making sewing mistakes, so I set it aside. Here are a couple update pictures of the yoke/bodice progress. I have a start to the body of the gown, but have no pictures of that yet.

Padme Packing Gown Measurement Chart

Here is a rough sketch of the measurements I'll need for the Padme "Packing Gown" headpiece/jewelry and armbands (click on image for larger view):

For the headpiece, I'll need a measurement from point A (just above the ear) to point B (center of forehead at hairline). I'll also need a measurement from point A to point C across the top of the head (lying flat against the hair).

For the armbands, you need to determine where each of the 4 bands will be positioned on your arm and take 4 measurements, D, E, F, & G, over the shirt preferably. If each of your arms is significantly different than the other, you should take each measurement for both arms.

Aqua Georgette Gown Progress

I haven't posted any updates on my embroidery progress for my Padme episode 3 aqua georgette gown lately. Here are pictures I took last night:

Padme Amidala [Skywalker] Episode 3 Aqua Georgette gown

After finally deciding to go ahead with making this gown, I purchased some georgette fabric and some DMC thread to go along with the blue/aqua satin fabric I already had.

I created my own bodice yoke pattern based off of images found at Padawan's Guide.

I waited until I got to a "stopping point" with my Senator Amidala gown before starting on the embroidery for the aqua georgette. Utilizing images from Padawan's Guide (of course!) I started to trace out the pattern for the Naboo symbols and have begun the process of hand embroidering the georgette.

I began on July 3rd, here is my progress so far:

AOTC Senator Amidala gown progress

July 3rd, I got to a "stopping" point on the beading for my Senator Amidala gown. I wanted to get to a certain point before setting it aside to work on another gown that I will use for Halloween. Here is my progress up to this point:
When I finish with the other gown, I will return to this one. I still need to add the collar beading and "flower" jewels. The "butterfly" beading also gets a layer of flower jewels and beading similar to the collar beading. I haven't yet figured out what I will attach the beads to, since the original was probably taken from a vintage/antique garment and was already sewn onto fabric (or possibly interfacing) before being sewn onto the Padme gown.
